ASYMCA of Alaska offers a variety of pop-up programs in and around the JBER area. These programs are subject to change year-to-year.  Scroll below to see our current pop-up programs in the JBER area!

Clean Up Week

oin the ASYMCA as we partner with Aurora Military Housing for the annual JBER Clean Up Week! Form a team, then see how many bags of trash you collect. Each bag of trash collected gives your team an entry in our drawing for one of our three cash prizes–$500, $300, and $100! Supplies can be picked up the week before May 4. Supplies provided are bags, gloves, and trash grabbers.

Supply Pick-up: Armed Services YMCA D.H. Cuddy Welcome Center at 10449 Luke Avenue, JBER-Elmendorf.

  • Who: Teams may consist of families, private organizations, office teams, units, squadrons, etc.
  • Date: May 4–8

Popsicle in the Park

Join the ASYMCA sta! team each week of an afternoon fun summer play! Each week, we will be at a di!erent park, ready to share the simple joy of a summer popsicle while meeting our wonderful military families. Weekly park locations can found on alaska.asymca.org. This is a drop-in program, no registration needed.

  • Who: Active duty military and currently serving families
  • Location: Park location rotates each week
  • Time: Wednesdays from 2:00–3:00 p.m.

Babysitter & CPR Certification

This 4-hour, in-person course uses the nationally recognized HSI Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) program to prepare teens and pre-teens for safe, confident babysitting. Participants practice hands-on skills like CPR, AED use, choking response, diapering, and bottle prep while learning supervision, safety, communication, and the basics of babysitting.

  • Who: Military teens ages 13–17
  • Location: Frontier Safety and Supply, 2217 E. Tudor Rd. Unit #3, Anchorage, AK
  • Date: June 6
  • Time: 2:00–6:30 p.m
  • Cost: $55 per participant

Mother–Son Adventure – Anchorage Area

Take the time away from the noisy world to enjoy a train ride adventure and hike through the Chugach National Forest to the
beautiful vista of Spencer Glacier. Made possible by Global Credit Union.

  • Who: Active duty military (Mothers and sons, recommended for ages 4+)
  • Location: Portage Whistle Stop, 42801 Seward Highway, Seward, AK
  • Date: June 10 or 11 (Choose your preferred date)
  • Time: 12:45–5:15 p.m
  • Cost: $35 per participant

Early Learning Picnic

An outdoor picnic for early learning families to connect, meet the teachers, and get to know one another.

  • Who: Families enrolled or interested in ASYMCA Early Learning Programs
  • Location: Early Learning Buildings at Bakerfield House (Eieslon AFB) & Building 690 (JBER)
  • Date: July 17
  • Time: 4:00–7:00 p.m
  • Cost: $3 per family

Salmon Fishing Day Trip with Mark Glass

Fish for salmon on the Kenai River! We’ll take a powerboat to productive gravel bars where guides will provide hands-on instruction on how to fish for and catch salmon, care for your catch, identify fishing spots, and tie basic knots. Alaska fishing license required. Transportation and lodging not provided.

  • Who: Female spouses of active duty military
  • Location: Kenai, AK
  • Date: July 24
  • Cost: $100

Military Spouse Summer Camp

Rest and recharge with fellow military spouses at an overnight getaway! Activities include kayaking, canoeing, archery, guided hikes, yoga, and more. Meals and snacks are provided. A special thank you to our partners, ConocoPhillips Alaska and Wounded Warrior Project.

  • Who: Female spouses of active duty military currently stationed in Alaska
  • Location: Camp Fire Alaska’s Camp K on Kenai Lake
  • Date: July 31–August 2
  • Cost: $100 per camper

Ocean Salmon Fishing with Hofstad Fishing Co.

Fish for salmon in the open ocean! Our guides from Hofstad Fishing Company will take us out on a saltwater adventure, where you’ll learn ocean fishing techniques, how to reel in salmon, and tips for handling your catch. Enjoy a day on the water while experiencing the thrill of ocean fishing. Alaska fishing license required. Transportation and lodging not provided
